A Greener Moving Industry

I've been saying for a long time that it is time for the moving and storage industry to get with the times and start becoming more eco-friendly. I came across this good article at www.Earth-Talk.com about just that. It talks about 10 ways in which the moving industry can become more eco conscious. Even if just one or two was adopted, we'd be much better off!

Tis the Season for Giving

I donated $20 to This American Life from Chicago Public Radio. This is the 2nd donation I've made this year. I listen to a LOT of NPR and PRI while I'm driving throughout the city, and I want to make sure I pay for the services I use (many people think it's free!). So if you are an avid NPR listener, please make sure you donate some money to your local NPR station! Additionally, if you'd like to support This American life, you can do so here.

What comes around goes around...

Yesterday I twisted my knee pretty badly while trying to help get a neighbor out of the slush. I was in a lot of pain, and I was lucky my roommate was here to help me out. I was cursing being a good samaritan.

Today, my car got stuck in the slush by my house. A nice guy walking by helped me out. So, I guess what goes around does come around.

Merry Christmas!

Helping Neighbors and Those Around Us

My roommate Kelly did a really nice thing today. At the supermarket she saw an old woman struggling to get through the slushy snow, so she took the woman by the arm and helped her all the way to the store entrance. She then realized that the woman's maybe-grandson had sprinted off on ahead of the woman and left her there to walk by herself. Yikes! He was definitely old enough to know better. It just goes to show how some people are so absorbed in themselves and the world around them that they don't stop to help those in need right in front of their faces.

I also had an encounter with a random act of kindness today. My across the street neighbors were having trouble parking their car in the slushy snow, so I offered my shovel and assistance. Needless to say the extra (wo)man-power helped get the car parked and I met a new neighbor.

It always feels good to help people out.

There's Snow Business like the Moving Business

For those of you who live in the Puget Sound area, you are no doubt cursing the weather right now. The snowfall received in this area of the country is unprecedented. We haven't seen a storm like this in over 15 years.

I've had to postpone all of my appointments this week simply because I'm not comfortable with these crazy drivers n the road!

Yet people are still moving. Last weekend we attempted to move a family from one Gig Harbor home to another. Unfortunately because their new home was on a hill, our trucks were not able to make it. With Christmas looming just around the corner, Abner Banwer, caring more about this family and the children having a good Christmas, went out again to Gig Harbor yesterday, determined to move that truck up the hill.

Success!
