The Cellphone Problem:
Young, urban people are increasingly only or primarily using cellphones for voice communication. Because people using cellphones are notoriously hard to get a hold of by pollsters, this group is underrepresented in nearly all polls on any major issue or political race.
It just so happens that these same people tend to skew very heavily Democratic.
So any poll you see, question its veracity. Because fully 50% of people under the age of thirty are primarily cellphone users and they are being under sampled, chances are any percentages lean farther to the right than the actual population.

I've been having to put my foot down with my bloggers on one just one thing: every HHH blog must have links to all other HHH blog.

Not surprisingly, the name Adolph for newborns really took a dive around 1936… http://tinyurl.com/6gs6lt

@schmelzenfreude, yeah my order of Do it Right With Type and a Moleskine reporter notebook was just <$35. Got a larger notebook instead.

Man, was I disappointed that Comic Sans didn’t make an appearance. I think that font would best be represented by a 50-year-old bespectacled woman with kitties on her sweater who loves creating newsletters to send out to family and friends. (via

Why, @captainoctagon, the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, of course!

And, no, it's not a technical issue (I've had that worked out for weeks). It's a quality assurance / identity and message control issue.

( This close ) to getting the 3 latest blog headlines from across the Humphrey to appear on the "official" front page.

Awesome-looking iPhone app version of Star Wars: the Force Unleashed. How many different versions of this game are there? PS3, xBox 360, PS2, PSP, Nintendo DS, iPhone… Atari 2600?

I'm sure this has been thought by someone else before but Gavin Newsom = Harvey Dent. Hopefully before his fall, that is.

The World’s Final Buffalo
An ingenious little ditty by Midway superstars
The Robot Houseband recorded at Big V’s god-only-knows when. You may hear me laughing at parts and praising the band at the end… declaring boldly:
“They can just stop writing songs! Not them, not them… I mean everybody!”Tuesday, July 22 00:55

www.minneapolisfuckingrocks.com/mp3/:
Unprotected directory full of mp3-formatted music that, apparently, causes Minneapolis to quote-unquote fuckingrock(s.com).
HINT: If you get some nonsense about “Service Unavailable” try alt-clicking the links to force your browser to download them instead of playing the mp3s in your browser.
ANOTHER HINT: Seems you can only download a few at a time.

I’m sorry if this is old and I am out of touch, but this is just hilarious. I think I found it over at Kottke’s site, but who knows with things like this.
Also surprising: I wasn’t aware know Jimmy Kimmel had done anything funny since he left Win Ben Stein’s Money.

"PC Sales Help Apple in Quarter":
From the New York Times. This seems like an odd headline, don’t you think? Odd that PC sales would help Apple. That should read Mac sales. In any case, another bang-up quarter for Apple, which means their stock should immediately and inexplicably plummet if history is any guide.
Sure enough: Apple shares drop 9% in after-hours trading. (via Daring Fireball)

Humphrey blogging initiative:
A little bit of self-promotion can’t hurt when it’s my own link blog, right?
Emphasizing the ‘Public’ in Public Affairs
“Emphasizing the ‘Public’ in Public Affairs” is a grant-funded initiative at the University of Minnesota’s Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs to infuse a traditional academic institution with the new media tools of “Web 2.0.”
Proposed and led by Humphrey graduate student Graham Lampa, the project has partnered with multiple Humphrey research centers to leverage the University’s UThinkblogging system to develop a bottom-up public outreach network.
The project was funded by a Service and Process Improvement Fund grant from the University of Minnesota’s Office of Service and Continuous Improvement.

For posterity’s sake: My brief appearance on the O’Reilly Factor from last month’s National Conference for Media Reform.
At about 5:55 left in the video, as Rev. Yearwood yells “Fox… News… is complicit… in… this… madness!”

We’ll do it live!
Bill O’Reilly intros a Nintendo 1988 Inside Edition TV news report with Super Mario (via dannyo8 on YouTube and motafett on Digg). I love it. They take almost a whole minute of air time to explain the best way to defeat the hammer-throwing dudes.
O’Reilly admits that his most advanced toy was Lincoln Logs, so he’s a bit out of his league.
